FAQs
When and where do you deliver?
We deliver to Sydney Eastern Suburbs, Sydney CBD and most of the Inner West.
We’re unable to offer same-day delivery for fresh flower orders because, as a studio-based florist, we source each bloom fresh from the Sydney Flower Market Monday, Wednesday and Friday specifically for your arrangement.
You can select your delivery date on the product page.
If your suburb isn’t available for delivery and you would really like to order from us, please send us an enquiry. We are also always happy to recommend other florists in your area.
Do you have a physical shop?
Not Just a Pretty Flower is an online floral studio based on Bidjigal and Gadigal land (Maroubra, Sydney). We do not have a physical shop front. We are available to travel for events.
How can I make my flowers last?
Flowers are perishable and the lifespan of flowers differs between varieties and types of flowers. We only use natural flowers (no artificially dyed or preserved flowers) in our creations.
Please follow these steps to care for your flowers:
- Re-cut stems and change the water every couple of days. This helps the flower stems continuously take up water by keeping the water vessels open and preventing the build-up of bacteria, which causes the vessels to become blocked (source Sustainable Floristry Network: https://www.sustainablefloristry.org/resources/floral-foam-facts/)
- Keep flowers out of direct sunlight and air conditioning
I'd like to get an arrangement made in a vase I own. Is this possible?
Certainly! Send us an enquiry including information about your vase and what you are looking for.
What is floral foam?
Floral foam is a single-use plastic packaging item which is still widely used in the floristry industry due to its convenience storing water, holding flower stems and availability.
‘Floral foam is made from two chemicals considered to be hazardous to humans: phenol and formaldehyde. These substances are mixed with non-hazardous substances to produce the final product. A recent independent study by RMIT University in Australia showed that floral foam is a problem for aquatic animals. All animals in the study selected floral foam as a food source. The study showed that toxic compounds can leach out of the floral foam and into the surrounding water. Both consuming foam and being exposed to water surrounding floral foam particles was shown to cause harm to the aquatic animals studied.
Floral foam enters the natural environment when water containing foam is poured down a drain, the foam is discarded into a garden or soil, mixed with green waste or buried on top of a coffin.’
